Welcome from the Headteacher

I am delighted to welcome you to Imberhorne School. Our vision is that all students leave our school as caring, confident, reflective and resilient individuals with a thirst for learning which lasts throughout their lives. We believe wholeheartedly in the power of knowledge to transform lives.

Imberhorne is a truly comprehensive school, providing an extensive academic curriculum from Years 7 to 13, alongside an enviable range of extra-curricular activities designed to appeal to the widest interests. Students in Years 7 to 9 are educated on the site of the former East Grinstead Grammar School on Windmill Lane, which provides a nurturing environment for their first three years with us. Years 10 and 11 and our large Sixth Form are based at our Upper School site on Imberhorne Lane, which has all the specialist facilities and teaching spaces needed for the wide range of examination courses we offer.

We are keen for our students to develop into well-rounded young people, with the academic knowledge and personal skills they need to take their place in society. Our curriculum is extremely wide-ranging, designed to inspire and motivate in equal measure. In 2022 we offered students a choice of 24 option subjects at Key Stage 4 (including four modern languages), as well as an extensive list of A Level and Applied courses in our Sixth Form.

We expect our students to be prepared to work hard, to meet demanding personal targets and to have the self-belief to meet our high expectations. The cornerstones of our learning community are compassion, achievement, respect and endeavour. Staff, students and parents support a wide range of activities and events beyond the classroom, reflecting the hugely varied opportunities we provide for students of all ages. Key amongst these are many different arts and sports activities, a significant number of educational trips both within the UK and abroad, as well as our very well-established Duke of Edinburgh Scheme. We expect students to participate in the vibrant wider life of the school, believing that such experiences help them develop important life skills and enable them to grow as confident young adults and responsible citizens. We aspire to be a school that really makes a difference to the lives of our students, helping to shape them as rounded young people with the skills and qualities that they can transfer into any walk of life or area of employment.

In short, we aim to develop the sharpest minds and the kindest hearts.
