We are delighted to announce that Imberhorne School has been awarded the British Council’s prestigious International School Award in recognition of its work to bring the world into the classroom.

The International School Award celebrates the achievements of schools that do exceptional work in international education. Fostering an international dimension in the curriculum is at the heart of the British Council’s work with schools, so that young people gain the cultural understanding and skills they need for life work in today’s world.

We run a significant number of internationally themed activities beyond the everyday curriculum including languages clubs, an eco-committee and cross-curricular projects.

During their time at Imberhorne, our students have the opportunity to meet and study with students from our partner schools in Dortmund, Germany, San Feliu de Guixols, Spain and Vasaskolan, Sweden either in face-to-face meetings or via virtual links.

In addition, all of our year 8 students are offered the opportunity to participate in a 3-day cross-curricular study visit to France. We are also maintaining our long-standing links with Tanzania with a visit for Sixth Form students and staff this Autumn to work on a project with Champion Chanzige help rebuild Mwanzo Mguma School.

Links such as these develop students’ cultural understanding and provide contact with other young people from a wide range of backgrounds, generating memorable and moving experiences for them.

We have also worked with local primary pupils on a global learning project called ‘The Sea and The Shore’ which encourages the children to investigate marine pollution and ways of protecting our oceans and marine eco-systems. We are also running Fun with French, Fun with Spanish and Get started in German sessions for classes in years 3-5.
