Tanzanian Exchange 23rd October - 8th November

Imberhorne School is very proud to have shared a highly valuable and worthwhile link with Minaki High School and Orphanage in Kisarawe, Tanzania since 2005.  Every year our exchange students travel to Tanzania in the Autumn for 2 weeks and then receive their new Tanzanian friends back to the UK in the following March.  This year’s cohort of Year 13 students have been working hard all year to raise money for the exchange and prepare for the upcoming adventure. The exchange programme and fund raising by the Imberhorne Community has provided facilities that have transformed the lives of so many children at the Minaki School and Kisarawe Orphanage.  A water tank was installed 6 years ago, followed by the installation of electricity in 2012 and the current project is to erect a perimeter wall around the orphanage grounds along with a septic tank.  The twelve exchange students who returned from their trip on 6th November commented on how life changing this experience is.  Natalie Barnard said “a key highlight of our trip was the eye-opening visit to the local Orphanage in Kisarawe, where we delivered gifts and played fun games with the children all afternoon.  We also taught many lessons in English at the local primary school about British culture, Geography and then engaged in general fun activities such as colouring and singing.During the second week we met up with Mr Ford, our former Imberhorne Head teacher, at his outstanding school, St. Jude’s. We are also very proud to say that we are now sponsoring the education of an 8 year old boy named Mohammed at St. Jude’s, through our fundraising  this year.  Furthermore, we were lucky enough to get to witness the stunning scenery and wildlife of Tanzania’s National Parks, such as the Ngorongoro Crater, arguably one of the most spectacular natural sites on the planet.  Words simply cannot express the amazing experience we all had on our journey in Tanzania. It surpassed all of our expectations and we are extremely proud to have been a part of it. Now, the Imberhorne group are focusing on the fundraising for the Minaki boys to visit the UK, and the improvement of the Orphanage in Kisarawe. We aim to raise £7,000 by the beginning of 2015!”If you would like to donate to the fund raising efforts then please either look out for the numerous cake stalls at ‘Parents Evenings’ or contact jturner [at] imberhorne [dot] co [dot] uk
